Hints on proof:  find congruent triangles using ‘diagonals of a rectangle are congruent’ to get to SSS, then use CPCTC.

Assignment for 4/28/08

April 28, 2008

Assignment for Monday, April 28, 2008

Due Tuesday, 4/29/08

From text:  p.526 #1-6, 9, 15, 17-19, 25

Proofs:  #11, 12, 13 on today’s notes handout.  All three require you to prove a quadrilateral is  a parallelogram.  For #11, one way to do this is to use ASA to show that the top and bottom triangles are congruent, then use theorem 8.10 (diagonals bisectors).

For #12 and 13, remember to use two different methods.  Try the midpoint of the diagonal on one, then congruent sides or parallel side for the other.

Assignment for 4/25/08

April 25, 2008

Assignment for Friday, April 25, 2008

Due Monday, 4/28/08

p. 518 #1-9 odd, 13, 16, 23-28, 29, 42, 46-48

Also, proofs 12 and 13 on back side of handout.

Plan for #12:  Use transitivity; show that BC is congruent to AD, show that AD is congruent to PQ, therefore BC is congruent to PQ.

Plan for #13:  Show that triangle FGC is congruent to triangle EGA using ASA.  Key steps are using vertical angles, segment bisectors, and alternate interior angles (AIA).

Monday:  rectangles

Hmmmm.  What would be some good questions to ask about parallelograms for Monday’s mini-quiz?  Email me or post a comment.

Vocabulary worksheet:  some words are in the text, others are on the back of the handout.

This Quadrilaterals chapter will be rather intense, and if you fall behind you may not catch up.  The plan is to have a quiz next Thursday or Friday, and the chapter test the following Thursday.

A key component for this chapter will be proofs, both in the two-column form and using coordinate geometry.

Due Thursday, 4/10/08

p. 702 #6-8, 11-15 odd, 18, 19, 21, 31

Bring to class the sheet of similarity proofs.

Tomorrow we will have a short quiz, review similarity proofs, and work on an extra-credit worksheet “The Bigger Circle Puzzle”.

If you want to celebrate surviving a successful third quarter and the beginning of Spring Break, you may bring snacks to share.  However, since we are studying circles, all snacks must be in the form of circles (m & m’s are circles, so are Life Savers, some tortilla chips, certain crackers, what else can you think of?)

There will be no homework assignment during vacation, because many of you would not do it anyway, and besides, what are vacations for but to take a break from you work?
