About your Geometry course

This Geometry class is a Regents’ level course, second in a sequence of high school mathematics courses.  Students who pass Algebra 1 generally take Geometry next, followed by Algebra 2 and then another math course.  The majority of the students in Geometry are Sophomores.  Ithaca High also offers an Honors Geometry course.  Nearly all of the students in the Honors Geometry course have take Honors Algebra, either in 8th or 9th grade.

Currently the teachers of Geometry are Mr. Weissburg, Mr. Kalman, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Jarvis.  The text is Geometry, published by McDougal Littell

This year the students in Geometry will take the New York State Regents’ Math A Exam in January.  In future years, Geometry students will take a Regents’ Exam in Geometry in June.  Students will also take a comprehensive exam for the course at the end of the school year, which will count for 1/4 of the grade for the course.

Grading for the course is based on Tests scores , which make up approximately 1/2 of the grade, Homework (approximately 1/4), plus Quiz grades, Class Participation and Effort, and occasional additional assignments such as Constructions, Writing Assignments, and short Projects.

Students in all sections, regardless of teacher, will take the same Chapter Tests and Final Exam, although homework, quizzes and other assignments may vary.
