For this lesson, most of the vocabulary is familiar from middle school geometry, with the possible exceptions of ’straight angle’ (isn’t that an oxymoron?), and seconds and minutes as parts of a degree.  We will skip the parts of a degree for now, but if you are interested in learning more about fractional parts of degrees, please read the bottom of p. 11 and the top of p. 12.

Question 10 introduces the concept of midpoint, although we will not formally study this until Lesson 1.5.

If you struggle with question #14, review Part Two, Problem 3.

If you are befuddled by #17, look at Part Two, Problem 4.

A New School Year!

September 8, 2008

Welcome to the 2008-2009 Geometry Blog, which is a continuation of last year’s blog.  (Scroll on down if you want to see some of last year’s homework assignments, posts, and comments.)

I primarily use this blog to post homework assignments, so you’ll have no excuse to no do your homework, even if you are not in school for geometry class.  I also post reminders of upcoming quizzes and tests, to sneak in Extra Credit assignments, and to give hints on the homework.

Please do not be shy about posting comments, especially if you have questions you’d like me to go over in class.  While I usually will post the homework during the school day, I don’t check in again until late in the evening, often too late to reply to your queries before you wisely retire for the evening.  So, if you do post a question, you may want to check back in the morning to see if I answered your question while you were tucked in bed for a good night’s sleep.

One caveat:  if you do post, please do not use your full name.  An initial or a nick-name will do.  When you post a comment, you must enter an email address.  The only person who can see your email address is the site administrator, and that is ME.  So I am even able to make personal email replies if you so desire (but you’ll have to say so in your post, because I am lousy at reading minds.)

–Mr. J
