Some of these are short proofs, but not all of them. The best way to learn how to do proofs is to attempt them, learn from your mistakes, see more examples, and try again. We’ll be doing many more examples in class the next few days.
Old HW: due on Monday was p. 67 #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21
This post comes to you from Monclova, Ohio, which is just west of Toledo, and is where my younger brother lives.
How did you do on the test? What did you struggle with, what was easy? Post a comment by clicking on the comments button below. First five commenters earn extra credit.
Tonight’s assignment as well as tomorrow’s are fairly easy, because they cover topics you learned back in middle school. You will note that Chapter 2 has lots of basic building blocks, kind of like Chapter 1. We’ll add in new details here and there, and get more formal about how we describe geometry, but the fundamental ideas you mostly already know.

Assignment for Monday, September 22, 2008
Due Tuesday, 9/23/08
Attempt to do some of the Logic Proofs worksheet. We will work on it in class tomorrow.
Assignment for Friday, September 19, 2008
Due Monday, 9/22/08
In class on Friday you received a 12-page packet Geometry titled ‘Logic’. I circled a few problems I want you to do, but counted the ones I thought you should be able to do and realized that I had assigned you 38 problems. Whoa! Too many, even though you are all good enough to get them all done by Monday. So I cut the list down to about two dozen (some are real fast and easy) so here’s the list (you also received a copy of this in class, but the reason you’re looking here is you can’t find that list, right?)
p. 20 #6 & 7
p. 21 #16 & 20
p. 23 #2
p. 24 #6 & 7
p. 26 #1, 2, 6-10, 12, & 15
p. 28 #1 & 2
p. 29 #3-6, 8 & 9
…and that’s all! Good luck, we’ll see you on Monday!

Assignment for Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Due Thursday, 9/18/08
Rework any of the proofs from pages 32 and 37 that you have not done or struggled with.
Do #4 on page 37
Do #2-5 on page 42
Assignment for Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Due Wednesday, 9/17/08
p. 36 #2, 5, 6 See sample problems in Part Two of this lesson: the three assigned problems are very similar to these three examples.
Also, go back and do or redo some or all of yesterday’s assigned proofs, which are problems #12, 13, 15, and 16 oon pages 33 and 34. The best way to learn to do proofs is to practice, practice, practice, and to learn from your mistakes if you make them.
Tomorrow in class I will give you answer keys to all 7 of these proofs, and will assign several more.
