Assignment for 2/28/08

February 28, 2008

Assignment for Thursday, February 28, 2008

Due Friday, 2/29/08

Please read over the Review on page 281

Optional:

p. 282-285 #7-25 odd (check answers in back)

p. 286 #1-11 odd (check answers in back)

Test tomorrow:  about half the test will be proofs, the other half will be all the other topics in the chapter.  One proof will be short (4 or 5 steps), one will be longer (7-9 steps).  One proof will come directly off the 8 Geometry Proofs handout.  There will probably also be a fill-in-blank proof.  Examples of ‘other stuff’ include ‘Which Theorem would you use to prove these triangles congruent?’ and ‘Find the values of x and y for the given triangle.’  Also, review the last quiz:  which problem did many of you get wrong because you didn’t do all the parts of it?   Hmmm.  Obviously that is a skill which needs to be tested again to see if you have improved.

S-S-S Congruence Theorem

p. 236 #1-8, 16-19, 25, 27

25 and 27 are proofs.  I chose odd-number problems so that you can check your answers in the back of the book.  I suggest that you try the entire proof before you check your answers.  Then, if your results are way off, rework the proof, checking it line by line as you go.  If you have the right statements and reasons, but not in the same order as the text gives it, figure out what is important about their order, or what is not right with yours.  Just like the proof on the quiz where you could not use the contrapositive until after you had stated the conditional, sequence is important on these triangle congruence proofs, too.
