Assignment for 12/14/07
Assignment for Friday, December 14, 2007
Due Monday, 12/17/07
Two worksheets:
Systems of Equations: Elimination Method #1-7 This is review from last year. Don’t forget to CHECK your solution. We will also review solving systems by graphing at solving by substitution next week. The answer to #1 is (-4, 2).
Graphing Quadratics: #1-5 This is new. Choose points for x, solve for y, then plot the point (x, y). Choose x = -2, -1, 0, 1, and 2. Answer the question at the bottom, too. (’a’ is the coefficient of the x-squared term.)
If we have a snow day on Monday I will try to post answers to the first worksheet here so that we don’t have to take the time to go over that in class on Tuesday.
One more thing: bring your graphing calculator to classs–we will be using the calculator to study the quadratics. (You are expected to have your graphing calculator with you to do the Math A Exam, so you will be expected to have yours with you as we prepare for the Exam.)

Monica and Elena–
I hope that what we went over today in class helped. Tomorrow we’ll go a little more in depth on graphing parabolas, like plotting them so the vertex is not at (0,0). Not much more complicated, especially if it is done using the graphing calculator. Then on Wednesday we’ll connect graphing the parabolas to the idea of solving quadratic equations. I’ll show you how the two ideas are really different aspects of the same idea.
